Located in Boone, North Carolina, Rhode’s Motor Lodge is a 54-room renovated and reimagined mid-century motel that captures the spirit of adventure and the essence of the High Country in both design and attitude. Our hip, one-of-a-kind boutique hotel features stylish design, a lively restaurant & bar, and an outdoor adventure vibe, making it an authentic hospitality experience for both travelers and locals. Our down-to-earth brand of hospitality is reflected in our welcoming and warm atmosphere. We don’t know a stranger here and everything we do is centered around our guests.

The person in this position must have excellent communication skills, the ability to resolve conflict, and a thorough understanding of what it takes to launch and run a unique boutique hotel. The General Manager position must foster and maintain the company’s culture, values, and reputation in the public eye and with all staff, guests, vendors, and partners.

The General Manager actively contributes to the overall operation of Rhode’s Motor Lodge and the restaurant Canteen by providing strong leadership to the team. They are responsible, self-motivated, driven, and detail-oriented while keeping the larger vision clear in mind. When unforeseen circumstances arise, they are a problem-solver and decision-maker, proactively finding resolution while keeping a positive attitude. They are leaders, demonstrating the ability to motivate a team, promote teamwork and enthusiasm. The General Manager sets the tone, through actions and words, of what Rhode’s Motor Lodge and Canteen means to guests, staff, and our community. They become the front line during challenging moments when our standards have not been met and do so with grace and humility.

Primary Responsibilities: The General Manager will head up all daily operations. They oversee guest reservations, group bookings, and the guest experience from pre-arrival through post-departure. Behind the scenes, they lead other staff, housekeeping, linen service, in-house laundry, supplies, and maintenance, and food & beverage. If needed, they are willing to roll up their sleeves and jump into any role.

 

This position requires:

●      5 years of experience in hospitality or service industry at a management level
●      Proven financial management skills

Responsibilities:

●      Ambassador of LODEN’s mission, vision, and values

Administrative:

●      Accountable for appropriate administration and controls involving Operations and bank accounts
●      Accountable for the timely completion of any projects as requested
●      Comply with LODEN Hospitality purchasing and invoice procedures
●      Coordinate contract services relevant to specific areas of responsibility
●      Develop a continuous five-year capital improvement plan for operations
●      Ensure that all accounting standards are adhered to
●      Implement and adhere to Rhode’s Standard Operating Procedures for all departments
●      Serve as the liaison between your property and the LODEN Director of Operations
●      Maintain an accurate and current filing system
●      Maintain appropriate databases
●      Manage expenditures from the Annual Operating Budget and Capital Reserve Budget
●      Monitor and manage the guest billing and collection procedures including delinquency, suspension, etc.
●      Initiate, implement, understand and analyze accounting procedures to include labor forecasts, inventory procedures, financial forecasting, annual budgeting procedures, capital expenditures, payroll and month-end analysis
●      Review payroll records for appropriate personnel
●      Implement policies and procedures involving severe weather, safety and fire
●      Responsible for planning, documenting, implementing and monitoring department training programs

Communications:

●      Communicate and interact with each employee, guest, investors and LODEN team members with courtesy, dignity and respect while maintaining a consistent professional demeanor
●      Initiate and maintain effective positive communication between guests and personnel
●      Maintain an “Open Door” communication policy for personnel and guests
●      Maintain contact with trade associates, professional organizations and industry publications for improvement of procedures and new technical advances

Personnel:

●      Responsible for interviewing, selecting, training, guiding and managing personnel
●      Ensure LODEN Hospitality recruiting and onboarding procedures are adhered to
●      Ensure all employees are in appropriate uniform and attire for their scheduled shift
●      Maintain an increased awareness of safety issues
●      Maintain and monitor effective personnel relations in a supportive, confidential environment
●      Maintain job descriptions, postings, personnel evaluations, and benefit communication
●      Implement labor standards and tailor job description templates to specific property
●      Develop a property-specific orientation program and implement both property and corporate orientations
●      Administer and train on progressive discipline policies and procedures
●      Responsible for performance evaluations and setting annual goals for personnel

Operations:

●      Ensure that all staff is delivering the levels of service in accordance with the Rhode’s Motor Lodge standard operating procedures
●      Have a thorough understanding involving the maintenance of the property
●      Maintain property exteriors and public spaces and conduct daily inspections
●      Adhere to all written mandatory policies and procedures, manuals, memos and oral instructions
●      Oversee project completion for preventative maintenance, deep cleaning and special projects, work with general contractors, ownership and architects to oversee and direct the hotel’s master plan
●      Review project in detail to ensure deliverables and cost estimates are within budget and on time, work with accounting department to manage construction account, draws and payments
●      Oversee all onsite construction to monitor progress, and submit daily or weekly construction update reports to ownership and architects and coordinate and direct construction workers and subcontractors and general contractors
●      Ensure the successful execution of all property events and festivals as needed
●      Manage expansion projects & associated budgets
●      Coordinate on the planning and pricing of all menu’s items
●      Have a thorough understanding of services, amenities and offerings
●      Maintain accurate records and files
●      Maintain current knowledge of all activities and events in the surrounding areas
●      Oversee the entire guest experience, from pre-arrival through departure
●      Promote and encourage guest name recognition at all times
●      Responsible for reviewing, understanding and following up on hotel guest needs
●      Coordinate and monitor contract services to ensure performance and productivity involving special projects and daily maintenance of grounds and guest rooms to meet guest expectations
